Mayor Basil Stewart – Putting Yourself Out There

Mayor Basil Stewart

EOV Reporter – Joey Blacquiere

After Mayor Basil Stewart graduated from school he enlisted and was accepted into the Police
Academy. After working many years as a Police officer in the City of Summerside, someone suggested he would make a great mayor and he decided to throw his hat in the ring and run. He was elected and he's been there ever since.

We asked the mayor for advice on getting more involved in the community. He shared with us that as a youngster he was shy but that being a police officer and having to deal with people on a daily basis helped him a lot with that. He also strongly suggested getting to know your city and it's people by volunteering with organizations within the city and to keep on top of what's happening in your city by reading the local paper, and visiting the city web site. By presenting yourself as a friendly and positive member of your community willing to pitch in and do your part.

For folks who live in the City of Summerside the City web site is
